The Story of Hot Possum...
When two friends Claire Turpin and Denise Carruthers got together to make a quilt for Claire's niece, they made this extremely bright quilt, and realised the opportunity existed for some very funky bright designs in the world of Seriously Fun Patchwork.
What to do! Design a range of cot quilts and wall hangings and little door hanger treats. Claire already had one girl Lucy Mae and Denise was expecting her first, when they headed to their first exhibition with overnight bag in hand, in July 2001, at the Claremont showgrounds in Western Australia.
The response was overwhelming and what they needed to continue with their dream.
"We have since designed and expanded the range every year to include single beds, grow charts and lots of surprises, keeping in mind bright colours and some seriously fun ideas".
"Our children are our inspiration"
Between us now we have three little ones - Claire's Isabelle, a sister for Lucy Mae and Denise's first boy Zed, who constantly inspire us. So we find being creative can be upon us at anytime of the day. Also being busy mum's we have to ensure the designs are kept simple with beginners in mind but allow the advanced quilter to experiment with embellishments.
The most important thing we find, is the fact that anyone can have a go at our patchwork and have a most enjoyable experience, be bold with their colours and at the end see a smile that brightens your day.
